One of the things I love most about Italy is that there's so much to do - places are relatively close together.
From where we were staying we could easily reach Florence, Siena, Pisa and Livorno. So we decided that a trip to the beach was a must-do, and there were plenty within an hour's drive from the villa.
We chose Marina Di Pisa, a picturesque little seaside town with a white pebbled beach that would be sheltered, safe swimming for the kids and set off.

A light and breezy white broderie anglaise playsuit is a classic for summer days and makes the ideal beach cover-up over a swimsuit. It's also a fairly practical choice for running around after a crawling baby, which makes it a must for me.
I added a little bit of colour with this fun candyfloss pink tassel necklace and my pale blue hat - a beach essential for keeping the sun off my face.
Sunglasses are a bit of a minefield for me and I struggle to find ones I love that also love me, so I've been over the moon with the Daydream style from Quay Australia. I'm a fan of oversize shades for hiding all my sins (eyebags galore) and making me feel a little bit rock and roll.
The latest addition to my handbag harem was also working hard for me on holiday - the Marc Jacobs Snapshot may be small but it packs a design punch with it's wide canvas strap, colourblocked design and chunky gold hardware. It's perfect for keeping your essentials close by.
A pop of leopard on these simple sandals finished the look off and were well suited to the sleepy but chic seaside town.
Best of all, I was hopelessly sad and twinned with Romilly, who also rocked a white romper suit for her first ever trip to the seaside.
